Restore: The West Ridge Church Home Makeover

In August, we had the privilege of documenting one of our church's biggest projects. Our church, West Ridge, along with other churches and volunteers in the community, demolished the old house of Wanda and Steve Weaver, and built a brand new, completely furnished house in its place. All of this was done in the space of 21 days. It is an amazing and spiritual sight to see so many people give of their time and resources to help another family.
Wanda and Steve's old house was in dire need of repair. Not only that, their son Casey had died in the house one year ago. Wanda and Steve found themselves unable to live in the house after Casey died. They moved in with their daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, and their old house stood vacant.
This new house represents a brand new start. It is a house created out of love, not to forget the past, but to begin to heal and move forward. There is a beautiful write up of this story in our local magazine, The Pulse of Paulding. Our pictures help illustrate the story, but the true beauty comes from all of the people that gave so lovingly to give this family.

Moms, Dads, and Kids all pitched in to help.

Paul and Angela Richardson spearheaded this massive project. Not only did they finish in 21 days, but Angela baked an apple pie so the house would smell like home when they walked in.

This is their daughter, Elizabeth. The button she wears is of her brother, Casey

This is Wanda and Steve's grandson, Hunter.

After the family toured their house, the West Ridge Worship Band played for the family and volunteers. Jake Collier of the worship band had created a song using the words Wanda had written in a poem about her son's death. This was the first time Wanda heard the song, "Our Brother, Our Son."
